The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international non-profit organization dedicated to serving the poor and providing others with the opportunity to serve.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Chicago
Founded in 1857, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Chicago is the oldest charitable organization in the Chicago area, serving individuals and families throughout Cook and Lake counties for more than 165 years.
The Society provides compassion, person-to-person assistance to neighbors facing difficult circumstances. This personal approach is what makes our work unique. We offer tangible support that helps meet basic human needs, which include food, clothing, and shelter. In addition, we may assist with rent, utility bills, transportation, and medical expenses.
Most importantly, we provide emotional support and, when requested, spiritual encouragement to those we serve. Through acts of charity, fellowship, and service, members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Chicago also deepen their own spiritual growth while helping build stronger and more caring communities.

Our Vocation
What is the Vincentian Vocation? What do we believe, become, and do? According to The Rule:
“The vocation of the Society’s members, who are called Vincentians, is to follow Christ through service to those in need and so bear witness to His compassionate and liberating love. Members show their commitment through person-to-person contact. Vincentians serve in hope” (pg. 6).

Our Impact
From the South Side of Chicago to the surrounding suburbs and throughout Lake County, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Chicago is dedicated to helping neighbors in need.
Each year, we assist thousands of people across Cook and Lake Counties, providing support to individuals and families who often have nowhere else to turn. Through our network of more than 70 local Conferences, we deliver assistance directly within the communities we serve. In addition, we operate two thrift stores, support numerous food pantries, and host community dinner programs that provide nourishment and fellowship.
